It was fun to write! I hope it gives a sense of the adventure they will soon embark upon.

You’ve captured the enormity of the event very effectively. How is it that such remarkable achievements have come to be accepted as commonplace?

I have a friend who works for Northrop Grumman that worked on the docking station for the Shuttle/ISS. His group was called Structural Mechanics and if you ever managed to get him on the phone he would scream ‘STRESS?!’ as he answered. Internal name of his dept. These are crazy engineering projects.

There has been a lot of speculation about the heat shield issue but surprisingly little in the way of hard facts. NASA's explanation at least makes sense, and I think they've had enough time to look at it that the solution they've found does minimise the risk. It would be nice to get a bit more transparency but I also suspect there are some export control issues here that prevent the full details being shared in public.
